August 2017 Quarterly Forum

Friday, August 25, 2017 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM

St. Elizabeth Hospital

1500 James Simpson Jr. Way

Covington, KY 41011

Covington’s significant influx of new businesses, impactful housing and high profile retail establishments is well documented. Much of the focus at City Hall now is turning to how to better plan and coordinate work on streetscapes, wayfinding and other such details as benches and garbage cans that can greatly enhance the built environment and encourage more people to live and work here.

This subject will be explored more deeply at the next CBC Quarterly Education Forum entitled “Design Standards For the Central Business District” scheduled for Friday, August 25th, 8:00 am to 9:30 am at St. Elizabeth Covington, 1500 James Simpson Way.

The discussion will be led by Mayor Joe Meyer with a panel of local community agencies assisting in the planning such Eric Summe, President and CEO, Meet NKY, Renaissance Covington Executive Director Katie Meyer, and Catalytic Development Funding Corporation Executive Director Jeanne Schroer.

The program will:

  • Uncover previous plans laid out a decade ago and how those might be altered
  • Divulge how different agencies like the ones above and other such as Covington Business Council, Southbank Partners can work together to help fund and implement different elements
  • Solicit public input on innovations and ideas that can differentiate Covington from different communities and encourage an even stronger, more walkable sense of place

This event is free but we require registration so we can adequately plan for refreshments and a Continental Breakfast:  (Link) The Forum are offered every four months by the Council in an effort to educate elected and community and business leaders on issues that require their input and action in making Covington a more desirable place.

This is a free event but we do ask for you to register so we can plan accordingly.

**Please note, you do not need to login for "special pricing'. **

August 2017 NonProfit Lunch n Learn

Tuesday, August 29, 2017 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

VonLehman & Company

810 Wright's Summit Parkway

Suite 300

Ft. Wright, KY 41011

Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as a day set aside to encourage donating (much of it online) to nonprofit charities at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday Season.  This was done in response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season.  A 2015 survey showed 93 percent questioned were familiar with Black Friday while only 18% were familiar with Giving Tuesday.  But strides have been made.  Last year USA Today reported Giving Tuesday broke a record with $168 million in charitable donations worldwide.

This year Giving Tuesday will be November 28 and will be celebrated here in Greater Cincinnati and around the world.  Join us for the next CBC NonProfit Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, August 29th from 11:30am -1 pm as we help local charities prepare.  We will have two experts discussing the issue:

  • Nicole Guffey Wiseman, Assistant Director, Friend for Life Cancer Support Network, Louisville.  FFL is a member of the Kentucky NonProfit Network, the association representing charities in the Commonwealth. Nicole has led FFL’s participation in Giving Day and Giving Tuesday, sponsored by KNN in April where a combined $222,000 was raised around the state.
  • Kara Williams, Shoestring Strategies Founder, whose virtual marketing firm assists nonprofits such as the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission and the Kenton County Public Library in developing and executing strategic plans designed to increase brand awareness.

The Lunch and Learn will be held at the Fort Wright headquarters (810 Wright’s Summit Parkway) of Lunch and Learn Partner and Sponsor Von Lehman & Company, which maintains more than 400 nonprofit clients in Greater Cincinnati.

The event is free to members but please register at the link so we can adequately prepare for providing lunch.

**Please note, you do not need to login for special pricing.**

 Thanks!
