Design Standards For the Central Business District

Covington’s significant influx of new businesses, impactful housing and high profile retail establishments is well documented. Much of the focus at City Hall now is turning to how to better plan and coordinate work on streetscapes, wayfinding and other such details as benches and street furniture that can greatly enhance the built environment and encourage more people to live and work here.

This subject will be explored more deeply at the next CBC Quarterly Education Forum entitled “Design Standards For the Central Business District” scheduled for Friday, August 25th, 8:00 am to 9:30 am at St. Elizabeth Covington, 1500 James Simpson Way.

The discussion will be led by Mayor Joe Meyer with a panel of local community agencies assisting in the planning such Eric Summe, President and CEO, Meet NKY, Renaissance Covington Executive Director Katie Meyer, and Catalytic Development Funding Corporation Executive Director Jeanne Schroer.

The program will:

  • Uncover previous plans laid out a decade ago and how those might be altered
  • Divulge how different agencies like the ones above and other such as Covington Business Council, Southbank Partners can work together to help fund and implement different elements
  • Solicit public input on innovations and ideas that can differentiate Covington from different communities and encourage an even stronger, more walkable sense of place

This event is free but we require registration so we can adequately plan for refreshments and a Continental Breakfast:  (Link) The Forum are offered every four months by the Council in an effort to educate elected and community and business leaders on issues that require their input and action in making Covington a more desirable place.

This is a free event but we do ask for you to register so we can plan accordingly.
